Composting and Recycling Hub

Introducing our revamped composting and recycling hub at the Noosa Community Garden 😃

We made it even easier for our members and public to drop off food scraps and newspaper to be converted into precious compost. Great compost with happy worms let our vegies thrive and provides a healthy harvest for our members. We are also grateful for your empties (bottles & cans) as the proceeds go back into the garden.

Bulk Storage Facility Completed

NCG has successfully secured a grant of $14,400 from the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund for constructing a bulk storage facility and for some permanent seating in the pergola. An application was made in September 2023 seeking $12,600 for the storage facility and $1800 for two bench seats for the pergola.

Noosa Council has consented to construction of the storage facility in the south-eastern corner of the garden with access via the existing double gate. The basic design will be a large concrete slab with separate storage bays of different sizes to accommodate our variety of garden materials. The layout design and method of partitioning the bays is yet to be finalised and any ideas/input from members would be most welcome. The main requirement is that small trucks/trailers can be backed up to the bays for unloading.

Seating in the shelter will consist of two sturdy bench seats (yet to be selected) bolted to the concrete floor.

The NCG in kind contribution to the project is construction of the 800mm high partitions that enclose and separate the bays and installation of the bench seats in the pergola. No doubt our various handy persons at NCG will have no difficulty in completing these requirements.

We are required to complete the project by February 2025 (acquittal date) and we have done so in July 2024!
